John Davis Editions, 2009

John Davis EditionsThe John Davis Gallery is pleased to announce the inaugural edition of John Davis Editions. This is a special opportunity for you to purchase these original, limited edition prints by subscription.

Nine of the artists the gallery represents have created an original work of art, through a traditional printmaking process, in a limited signed edition of 50. This inaugural 2009 edition includes a wonderful mix of artist styles and visions. Subsequent years will follow with 12 prints per year.

The 2009 edition was launched in a very special way in April--not with a print but with an edition of 50 small works of art created by La Wilson, each contained inside a three-inch bottle and each one different. Each buyer will therefore receive an original and unique La Wilson work of art.

In May, the series continued with the presentation of a new print exhibited each month through December. These prints will be the works of other fine artists represented by the gallery: McWillie Chambers, Renee Iacone Clearman, Daisy Craddock, Paul Hamann, Joseph Haske, Christine Heller, Jon Isherwood, and Sara Jane Roszak.

The prints are on Rives White 250 gsm paper, 11 x 15 inches. Actual image size will vary, with artists given the freedom to choose.

A subscription to the entire series entitles the collector to all eight prints at $125 per print, an archival presentation portfolio for print storage ($75), and the La Wilson construction ($125). Subscribers also receive the early strikes of the print edition: The first subscriber receives the first of the 50 prints made; the second subscriber receives the second, and so forth.

The total cost for a 2009 subscription is $1200 plus shipping. The collector pays for shipping, to be calculated prior to the sale. Original subscribers to John Davis Editions will have the option of renewing their subscription for forthcoming editions and retaining the same print strike number. Subscriptions are being accepted at this time and will continue until sold out.

These new works are priced very reasonably to enable more art-lovers to collect art and to enable the many friends of the gallery to support it and its artists. This is a unique opportunity to support the creation of new art and to own it at a very special price.

Many of the artists in this edition worked directly with Marjorie Van Dyke. Marjorie began her professional printer career in 1982 as the master printer at Robert Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop. In 1997, she opened her own printing shop where she does contract printing. She is as well a primary partner and master printer in VanDeb Editions. Marjorie has collaborated with artists such as Nancy Grossman, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, Claire Seidl, Joseph Haske, Betye Saar, Paul Resika, Mel Edwards, Mark Saltz, Mark Stamaty, to name a few. Her own prints are represented in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, The J. Paul Getty Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and others.
